annual report 2015

The Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INER), established in 1968, is a government agency dedicated to the research and development (R&D) on nuclear system safety, energies development, radiation applications and energy economics researches. Besides, INER also bears the mission of developing radiopharmaceuticals for the public well-being. On the basis, INER has expanded its researches to including the development of green energies such as new and renewable energies, energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. For 47 years, the R&D results of INERs endeavors have received high recognition by being awarded with lots of prizes domestically and internationally.

Green technology is one of the five highlighted innovative industries of the government. Since 2002, INER has devoted itself into the R&D works of new and renewable energy technologies. Years of hard work yielded fruitful achievements in the fields of solar photovoltaics, wind power, biomass, smart grid and energy conservation. Currently, we are actively promoting these R&D achievements to industries worldwide. In May 2015, a bioenergy technology developed by INER has been transferred to a Malaysian plywood company run by Taiwanese entrepreneurs with a non-exclusive technology authorization license. The company plans to construct a new bio-refinery plant to use waste wood chips as raw material for production of biofuels and bio-based chemicals. Moreover, in August 2015, a roll to roll plasma-coating energy-saving thin film technology developed by INER has been transferred to a domestic company by technology authorization. The company plans to construct a whole-integrated production line within two years. It is expected to boost the industrial upgrade of energy-saving thin-film production.
